Dragons' Den-style innovation workshop designed to engage 50 fee earners across practice areas in collaborative innovation, featuring client judges and resulting in a winning concept that proceeded to full development.

An international law firm is struggling with a critical innovation adoption challenge: despite significant investment in innovation initiatives and technology platforms, fee earners across practice areas remain disengaged from the innovation process. Previous top-down innovation efforts have failed to gain traction, with lawyers viewing innovation as "something that happens to them" rather than something they can actively shape. The firm needs to transform fee earner attitudes toward innovation, moving from passive resistance to active participation and idea generation. Leadership recognises that without genuine buy-in from the lawyers who will ultimately use these innovations, even the best technology solutions will fail to deliver their intended value.
We designed and delivered a Dragons' Den-style innovation workshop competition that transformed how fee earners engaged with innovation. We recruited 50 fee earners from across all practice areas and facilitated a collaborative ideation process, helping teams develop practical innovation concepts that addressed real client and operational challenges. The workshop culminated in a competitive pitch session where teams presented their ideas to a panel of judges comprised of the firm's clients, ensuring market relevance and external validation. We provided coaching throughout the process, helping participants refine their concepts and develop compelling business cases. The winning idea demonstrated clear client value and operational impact, leading to immediate approval for full development and implementation.
